Wall sculpture carved from a beautiful 90 Lb block of Maple burl down to 6 Lbs. Dyed black with a smooth satin oil finish.

Inspired by the folded patterns of Gothic wood panels, Linenfold transforms spalted Ambrosia maple into a flowing, sculptural composition. Sweeping folds rise and descend across the circular surface, creating a sense of movement and depth reminiscent of fabric gathered in space. The interplay of curves and recessed areas balances architectural structure with organic form.

The maple’s golden tones and dramatic dark spalting trace the contours of each fold, revealing a natural pattern as distinctive as the sculpture itself. Measuring 16 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches deep, Linenfold brings historic inspiration into a contemporary sculptural language, celebrating the beauty of wood, light, shadow, and form.

This wall sculpture has an oval shape, with an irregular, natural edge. It preserves the character of the Ambrosia Silver Maple tree. Radiating from a small circular opening at the center is a fan-like pattern of deeply carved, spiral grooves. These grooves create a sense of motion, as if the wood is unfolding or being pulled inward toward the center, giving the piece a dynamic, almost vortex-like energy.
